Blue chip companies are great employers. They are always recruiting new prospective people, so if you want to build a career (i.e. as a manager), there firms are very good opportunity for rocket聽start.

  • you can obtain emploee shares depending on the firm聽policy

The difference between stocks and shares

Let's聽be clear about the terminology: a shareholder holds share of stocks. Stocks can be separated into lots of shares. You can have 100聽shares of Google stock (ticker: GOOG). You may come across two main types of stocks: common stocks and preferred stocks.

  • Common stocks form the majority of issued stocks. These common shares represent ownership in a company. They also claim a portion of profits (=dividends). Investor gets one vote per share to elect the board members.
  • Preferred stocks usually doesn't come with the same rights to vote and investors are often guaranteed a fixed dividend forever.
